Black kale grown from saved seed, harvested all winter long. It gets sweeter after frost, and makes the best stuffed cabbage leaves.
Karalahana (black kale / cavolo nero) is a biennial that gives leaves all winter and seed the second year. Sow in July–August, transplant in October with 40–50 cm spacing. Harvest outer leaves from frost onward — cold makes them sweeter. Save seeds from second-year plants in June–July. Perfect for stuffed cabbage rolls and winter soups.
